We list 567 appliance stores in Texas, spread across 131 cities. 530 of them (93%) trade under a name we see nowhere else at scale, which is our working definition of an independent. Every listing is checked against Google Business Profile data; this page was last rebuilt from the database on August 4, 2026.

We have classified what 123 of the 567 Texas listings sell (22%), from what each store publishes about itself. The chips below the store list break that subset down. The other 444 are listed but not yet classified, and a store missing from a category has not been ruled out of it.
69 of the 567 Texas listings (12%) carry 500 or more Google reviews. A review count that size takes years to accumulate, so those are the storefronts with the longest public track record in the state, whatever their founding date says.
We have found a founding year for 86 of the 567 Texas listings, and 74 of those have been trading since before 2000. The earliest is BH Dave's Appliance Inc in Dallas, which dates itself to 1921. The other 481 listings publish no founding date we could find, so treat this as a floor rather than a count.
No single Texas city holds much of the inventory. The largest, Houston, accounts for 90 of 567 listings (16%), against a median top-city share of 23% across the 51 state pages. Searching by city matters more here than in states where one metro carries the market.
We have read the websites of 188 of the 567 Texas listings and recorded which brands each names. Across that subset the most frequently named are GE (111), Samsung (102) and Whirlpool (100). This describes only the 188 crawled sites, not the whole state, and a brand appearing on a store site is not a guarantee of current stock.
Method. Each paragraph above is computed from this database when the page is requested, not written by hand, and every figure in it can be re-derived from the listings on this page. Where a paragraph compares Texas against a national figure, that figure is the median across all 51 state pages rather than a pooled national total, which three large states would otherwise dominate. Nothing is claimed about the Texas appliance market beyond what these listings show.

Method. We hold no ownership records, so an operator counts as a chain when the same store name appears 5 or more times across our national database. That groups by name, so a chain trading under several names is undercounted and two unrelated stores sharing a common name are overcounted. It is a proxy, and we would rather publish it with its limits stated than not publish it.
