We list 179 appliance stores in New Jersey, spread across 85 cities. 163 of them (91%) trade under a name we see nowhere else at scale, which is our working definition of an independent. Every listing is checked against Google Business Profile data; this page was last rebuilt from the database on August 4, 2026.

We have read the websites of 44 of the 179 New Jersey listings and recorded which brands each names. Across that subset the most frequently named are Electrolux (28), Frigidaire (28) and GE (28). Electrolux leads here where GE leads across the crawled sites nationally. This describes only the 44 crawled sites, not the whole state, and a brand appearing on a store site is not a guarantee of current stock.

Method. We hold no ownership records, so an operator counts as a chain when the same store name appears 5 or more times across our national database. That groups by name, so a chain trading under several names is undercounted and two unrelated stores sharing a common name are overcounted. It is a proxy, and we would rather publish it with its limits stated than not publish it.
