In the year 1997 I bought an Amana dryer from George Washington Toma. It was with me through thick and thin, in good times and bad, for better and for worse. In 2021, I took it apart to replace the rollers and the belt. Recently, the bearings in the motor started making bad sounds. I disassembled the machine, vacuumed it out, lubricated the bearings, and affixed a sticker to the front that stated, "DO NOT RESUSCITATE."
I got one more load out of my 1997 Amana dryer then it was over. We had a long and productive relationship but when the motor is shot, the blower is brittle, the firebox is deteriorating, the felts are flat, and the wire harness is stiff, it's time to say goodbye.
The 2011 Fisher & Paykel washer still had some life left in it. But it needed new suspension rods and truth be told it was not a very good machine. There's a reason they don't make them anymore.
With a heavy heart, I sallied forth to the showroom at George Washington Toma in Weymouth. Sue Keith showed me a variety of machines in the Toma showroom and we decided LG made the most sense for me.
Speed Queen was a seductive temptress but the most recent reviews I found online and the complaints on the Better Business Bureau website made me steer clear.
Sue arranged for a delivery date and J-Mark my local plumber kindly agreed to disconnect the old dryer. I moved my old machines out of the corner, sanded out the floor with my Festool dustless sander, and painted the floor gray and the walls white.
A day before Snowpocalypse 2026, Toma's delivery team of Hector and Storlyn did a great job getting the old machines out and the new machines in. Hector made sure the new machines were installed perfectly level as it makes a huge difference. Do yourself a favor. Request Hector for your delivery.
I had a great experience with the team at George Washington Toma and I highly recommend them. It is not easy to let go of a beloved appliance and they absolutely don't make them like they used to. But there's no future in this life looking back, so we look ahead, press on, and hope the LG has half of the heart of the Amana.
